I have met and heard about ALTs who are working here and kind of struggling with communicating with their Japanese colleagues at elementary, junior, and high schools. This has sometimes led some ALTs to quit their jobs and leave Japan.
As an introvert, if I were to work as a teacher at a school where I was the only one from another country, I might have similar difficulties.
In Japan, we are in a high-context culture where a lot of people share and understand common concepts. I still sometimes have some difficulties in ways that may be similar to how people from low-context cultures find it difficult to understand each other in our communities.
