We would begin with a teacher and then a student introduction. If the student is quiet, I would proceed with a silly guessing game of their hobbies to lighten the mood.
We would use the student's hobbies to help them gain confidence and talk about themselves.
We would discuss what the student wants to experience from the lesson.
Next, I would use the understanding gained from their speaking to help them with a reading task. The reading task will be based on their level, with lower-, middle-, and higher-level news articles for them to read. The article would be current events, so the topic should be something the student is familiar with. The purpose of reading would be to add new vocabulary, and identify pronunciation issues.
Time permitting, we would then discuss what new vocabulary they learned, and how to use the new words.
Finally, we would have some free-discussion time so that they have a chance to speak.
