“Relaxing” conversation is for students who are very comfortable using English. These students want to take it to the next level. We practice using idioms, slang, cultural references, and do not focus on grammar, intonation, and pronunciation. “Deep” conversation is for the student who has challenges with foundations skills. The focus is simple sentence construction, such as pronunciation, subject verb agreement, and tense, correct word usage, etc.

２０代のころから俳句を始めて、句歴２０年になりました。まったく俳句がわからないという方から、上級レベルの人まで、ご自身のレベルに合わせて、一緒に楽しんでいきましょう。私は潜在意識の活用や心理カウンセリングなどについてずっと学んできました。日頃、なかなか進まなくてモヤモヤしているとか、もっとこうできたらいいのにとか、悩みだったり、願望を抱えている方、まずはお気軽に話してみることから始めませんか。

I think that what I uniquely offer to my students is my experience. Having grown up in three countries (Philippines, USA, and Australia), I was conditioned to have an open mind and the patience to understand the culture around me. These characteristics are what my lessons embody. Each lesson has a plan that is made to help the student prosper and since the curriculum is set, all I ask for is participation and enthusiasm.

Japanese For beginners and intermediate students, input should have priority. Because it costs time and money, studying efficently is key. It is more important to first remember whole sentence patterns. And then the students can expand their vocabulary by filling in words. Just by doing that the students will almost be ready to introduce themselves. For advances students, it is all about output.

Whenever I teach new vocabulary I like to create a silly, funny sentence that makes the students laugh. I think this also helps them to understand and remember. I then ask them to make a sentence too. This helps me check their understanding. On our next lesson I will check whether students have remembered and are using this new vocabulary. Vocabulary, phrases and language should also be relevant to the student.

Through my experiences outside of Japan, I found that I became more interested in Japan itself, and wondered how much I truly know about my own culture. Because of this, I started to think that it would be nice to do what I can to help people who want to learn more about my country!!!

One of the unique things about my lessons is that I do not teach textbook English, but English spoken by native English speakers. I want you to sound natural, rather than like a book. I help you learn common phrases and idioms used by native speakers. I help you sound more like a native as well. I also like to have fun during my lessons, so expect lots of laughs and getting to know one another.
