SELF INTRODUCTION

This introduction is a great place for students to find out more about me. First I want to tell them about who I am. Maybe I've always had a passion for the category I am teaching, maybe I can tell about a special event that made me interested in the subject or teaching in general.


TEACHING BACKGROUND

Next I can talk about my teaching background - that could be anything from my major in college/university, experience in private tutoring or group tutoring, offline or online, maybe I have a certificate in teaching/education or one related to the category that I want to teach, then I can mention it here.

But this doesn't need to be a dry list of my experiences. If I think about what I love about teaching and what motivated me to become an online tutor, I can easily fill this text with life. 


TEACHING STYLE

This leads me to the next important part: my teaching style. All students have different needs and like to learn from different kinds of people. If I am direct and clear in describing my teaching style it will help attract students who fit me and my way of thinking and tutoring.
My students want to know how I structure my lessons: Can they take any lesson I offer right away? Or do I recommend an introduction lesson first? Can anyone take my lessons (Adults and children?) or do I only offer lessons for students with a certain level of experience (Beginners? Intermediate? Advanced?). Will my lessons be very customizable or do I have a set plan? Am I open for both alternatives? 

Finally I can end my self introduction by motivating the student to take the first step and request a lesson. If I have trials it's a good idea to mention them here.
I can send my student off with a positive message: What will they gain from taking my lessons? Will it change how they've studied so far? Will it add something new to their life?

I hope these steps helped you build an idea for your own self introduction. The order of these topics is interchangeable and you might want to add or leave out some parts in order to create your own story.

PERSONAL RULES

Depending on your own teaching preferences you might have certain personal rules or recommendations that students should know before booking your lessons. Something you might think to be common sense, might not be the same for all students. Some personal rules can help prevent misunderstandings further down the line. You don’t have to set this up at the beginning, but maybe this list of things can be worth thinking about:

- Video recording: Are students allowed, or encouraged to record your lesson? Or do you forbid it?
- Camera rules: Do you only teach students who use the camera? Do you not mind either way? Do you turn off your camera if they don’t use theirs?
- Disruptions: Do you have young children or maybe pets who might sometimes disturb the lesson. If you write about it in your profile students will be aware of it when they book the lesson. Maybe the student is even in a similar situation.
- Short-term cancellations: Are you caring for a family member, or do you have young children who might cause you to have to cancel lessons short-term? Let students know by writing about it in your self introduction.
- Age restrictions: Do you welcome students of all ages? Do you only teach students from a certain age onwards?
- Gender restrictions: Some tutors may prefer to only offer lessons to one gender, or certain lessons may only be for one gender.
- Recommended lesson order: If you have a certain lesson that you would like students to book first, please mention it in your self introduction. We also recommend moving the lesson to the top of your lesson list.
