Hello!
I'm Mia, a Korean language tutor.
I have lived in Seoul since I was young, and I attended elementary school, middle school, high school, and university all in Seoul. Having lived here for most of my life, I speak natural and accurate standard Korean.
I majored in Economics at university, and after graduation, I started my career at a bank. Later, I moved to a broadcasting company, where I had the opportunity to work with many different people.
One of my greatest passions is traveling. ✈️
So far, I have traveled to more than 20 countries. I especially love traveling to Japan, and before I knew it, I had visited Japan more than 50 times! Just searching for new destinations and planning my next trip makes me happy. Traveling has always been something that brings energy and excitement to my everyday life.
When the COVID-19 pandemic made traveling impossible for a while, I decided to try something new.
“What could I learn while I can’t travel?”
That simple thought led me to study for a Korean Language Teacher Certification as well as the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. As I studied and earned these qualifications, I began to think, “Maybe I could teach Korean!” And that is how I started teaching Korean on Cafetalk.
I still have plenty to learn myself, but I would be very happy to share what I know about the Korean language, culture, and everyday life with you in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
I believe that many people who study Korean are also interested in Korea, its people, and its culture.
While studying Korean together, I hope we can explore Korean culture and society almost as if we were traveling together, while also sharing our own stories and experiences.
Please don’t feel too nervous just because it’s a “lesson.”
It’s perfectly fine to make mistakes! I hope we can talk a lot, laugh a lot, and make Korean feel a little more comfortable and natural each time we meet.
I’m looking forward to meeting you! *^-^*
My lessons are conducted mainly in Korean. However, when something is difficult to understand or needs further explanation, I can also provide support in Japanese.
The most important thing in my lessons is to give you as many opportunities as possible to speak Korean.
When studying a foreign language on your own, you can practice reading and writing by yourself, but finding opportunities to actually speak the language can be much more difficult.
That’s why, rather than having me do most of the talking, I will ask questions and guide the conversation so that you have plenty of opportunities to speak Korean.
You don’t need to speak perfectly from the beginning.
It’s completely fine to start with short sentences using the words you already know.
Little by little, those short sentences will become longer, and my goal is to help you reach the point where Korean comes out more naturally without having to think too hard about every sentence.
Let’s relax, have fun, and practice Korean together!
