My name is Christabel, and I’m from Canada. I lived in Japan for 2 years, where I taught English at a junior high . I loved living in Japan and I hope to return one day.
My hobbies include reading and painting.
I also love to travel, and my favorite part of traveling is researching popular local restaurants and then eating at them!
This is me enjoying ebi tempura at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. Of course, I love eating at restaurants near my home, too. Unfortunately I’m not a great cook, but maybe one day I’ll learn. I also love to meet new people from different cultures and talk about their lives and their cultures.
MY PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I taught English in Japan for almost two years. I’ve also been teaching English online for more than 4 years. Before teaching English full time I was a business systems analyst in the IT department of a bank for 4 years. I have experience in both the corporate and academic world. If you're learning English for school, I can help. If you want to know how to use English in a business environment, or focus on technical or IT topics, I can help with that, too!
MY TEACHING STYLE
I offer two standard types of classes: structured conversation practice for adults, and a comprehensive English curriculum for kids that includes songs and interactive computer games. Every lesson, for both kids and adults, contains new vocabulary and opportunities to practice reading, speaking, and listening. I also have several textbooks and formal resources available and I can design a program for you focused custom topics such as business English.
I've spent a lot of time learning additional languages, so I know how stressful it can be. My goal is to provide a low stress environment for you to use English for its intended purpose, that is, to communicate information, ideas and opinions. The only way to learn English is to use it, and that’s what we’ll do in my class. Never be afraid of making mistakes, because it means you're trying -- and that means you're improving! So don’t wait, and let’s get started! I’ll see you in the classroom.
