Finally, it made it!

2021年3月6日

Recently, I flew home to England after spending some time in Japan.  Instead of saying to my friends “I’ve arrived back”, I want to say to them,

“finally, I made it home”.

In this way, I’m implying that my journey was not straight forward and that I encountered some problems and I’m prompting my friends to ask me about the journey.

We can use made it to indicate that something is completed.  Such as:-

·        He made a beautiful coffee cake.

·        She made her own wedding dress, to save money.

Someone’s victory, such as:-

·        You made it into Oxford University, you must be incredibly happy!

·        After seven years of study, you eventually made your dream to become a doctor true.  Well done!

Arrival, such as:-

·        Peter has made it to the party, even though his car broke down.

·        After one failed attempt I made it home last week.

And finally, my luggage made it back to the UK as well, just a couple of days later than originally planned.   Where did it go?

If you know the answer to the question, please tell me.  I’m looking forward to speaking to you.
