MY TOPIC THIS WEEK: Effectively Communicating with Your Audience

Jan 27, 2022

If you own a business or are involved in any community organization and effort, having good communication skills will truly be up to your game more than almost anything else. Proper communication is required to inspire them to purchase or influence them to change or take some action.

To improve your conversions, you need to improve your communication skills. This starts with understanding your audience and your strengths, weaknesses, and the resources required to communicate with your audience properly and effectively.

Try the following ways to communicate with your audience.

I. My IDEAS:

Be Relatable and Reliable

Consistent, reliable, and relatable resources are what most people look for. It also helps you get in front of your audience better. When you have more consistent information available regularly, your audience is more likely to return or seek you for advice again. This is because they know that you are a trustworthy, credible, and reliable source of information.

Use Multiple Outlets and Resources

This is more vital than ever if you're communicating online, and currently, there is no reason not to be. Even brick and mortar stores rely on or could use online communication to their benefit. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and websites are all examples of outlets to take advantage of.

Be sure your image, message, and other resources you use are consistent on each platform. This doesn't mean you should share the same content, though. Each platform is unique to how they share content, and you should follow it. However, colours, tone of voice, pictures, and how you present yourself should all be the same.

Listen and Really Get to Know Them

Don't just use your buyers' personas to understand your audience. Find the real-life version and get to know who they are. Learn how the people you want to interact around and what makes them so unique. Listen to their struggles and find ways you can provide them value and think beyond your interests.

Ask questions to show them you care. It shows you are human, and your audience is not expecting you to know everything. You don't need to be an expert on everything to communicate effectively.

Use the Power of Storytelling

Human brains are wired to understand concepts, unique ideas, events, and other situations through storytelling. Storytelling is easy to absorb and keeps your audience hooked. When you share stories, your audience will naturally try to apply them to their life from their own experiences and ideas. This phenomenon is knowns as speaker-listener neural coupling. When this happens, the neurons in your brain start to fire in the same pattern as the ones telling the story. Thus, making it easier to understand and stay interested.

Overall, effective communication starts with being aware of your audience's interests, values, and feelings and then using proper resources and materials to enhance your content and delivery to send the right message.

II. FROM THE PROFESSIONALS:

To effectively communicate we must realize that we are different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” - Tony Robbins
