Questo modo di dire significa che una persona, mentre parla, passa da un argomento all'altro senza che gli argomenti siano legati tra di loro o seguano un filo logico.
Esempio: "L'oratore saltava di palo in frasca e non ha dato nessuna nuova informazione sul tema trattato".
L’origine di questo modo dire è incerta, secondo alcuni deriva dall’abitudine degli uccelli di saltare qua e là, posandosi prima su un ramo, poi su un cespuglio...; secondo altri l’origine si troverebbe nel fatto che nell’antichità il palo era il simbolo araldico di un casato nobiliare, mentre la frasca era il simbolo delle osterie; quindi, il passare dal palo alla frasca significava cambiare completamente contesto.

This idiom means that a person, while speaking, passes from one topic to another without the topics being linked to each other or following a logical thread.
The origin of this idiom is uncertain, according to some it derives from the birds' habit of jumping here and there, landing first on a branch, then on a bush...; according to others, the origin would be found in the fact that in ancient times the pole was the heraldic symbol of a noble family, while the branch was the symbol of the taverns; therefore, the passage from the pole to the branch meant a complete change of context.
