Walking in Winter

EnglishKim

Does it snow where you live? Where I live, in Ontario, Canada, it snows in winter. This winter it has been snowing a lot. Lately I have been shovelling snow almost every day! Snow shovelling can be good exercise, but it’s not my favourite way to exercise. Walking is one of my favourite ways to exercise, and I walk all year round. Do you enjoy walking? Do you like walking in winter? Here are three things I like to wear or bring with me to make winter walking safer, more comfortable, and fun:

1.     A charged cell phone. My cellphone has a step-counting app, and, for my listening pleasure, podcasts and music. I especially like to listen to language learning podcasts when walking (or shovelling). I am learning French, Esperanto, and Spanish.

2.     A warm winter hat. I have a winter hat which has a rechargeable light for night-time walking, and rechargeable headphones for listening to my cellphone. In Canada a knit winter hat is called a toque, also spelled tuque or touque.

3.     A warm winter coat with a hood. I like to pull a hood up over my toque to protect my head from winter winds.

What is your favourite way to exercise? If you walk, what do you like to bring with you? Do you like to listen to music or podcasts while you exercise? Take a lesson with me and you can tell me about your favourite ways to exercise or whatever else you like to do. Let’s have a chat.
