What teaching English has taught me

Michelle GL

Teaching English is a passion of mine, it's about connection, confidence and sharing life across cultures.
Every day I meet students from different countries and backgrounds- professionals, veterinarians, doctors and people who simply want to chat in English. Through conversation, I get a glimpse into their lives, cultures, and dreams.

For many students, the biggest challenge isn't grammar- it's confidence. I've seen shy beginners transform into people who can hold full conversations. The moment a student realise they can communicate is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

While I teach English, my students teach me too- about perseverance, humour and resilience. Teaching has reminded me that language is more than words: it's connection, curiosity and courage.

Being a teacher means I can help people reach their goals, whether thats moving to the UK, feeling more comfortable at work or chatting with friends. Each lesson feels like a small step toward something bigger in their lives, and I feel grateful to be part of that journey.

Teaching English has shown me taht learning a language is about more than studying - it's about creating connections, celebrating progess, and sharing moments of understanding. And that, to me, is what makes it so special.
