Mother’s Day in Japan / ははのひ（母の日）

みなさん、こんにちは。

明日、5月10日が何の日か知っていますか？

母の日です。

母の日は、母親（ははおや）に感謝（かんしゃ）の気持（きも）ちを伝（つた）える日です。

日本では、5月の第2日曜日が母の日です。

カーネーションの花をプレゼントしたり、いっしょに食事（しょくじ）をしたりする人が多いです。

また、日本には父の日もあります。

父の日は、6月の第3日曜日で、父親（ちちおや）に感謝の気持ちを伝える日です。

父の日には、ネクタイやお酒などを贈（おく）る人が多いです。

母の日も父の日も、もともとはアメリカで始（はじ）まった記念日（きねんび）ですが、

日本でも広（ひろ）く知られるようになりました。

母の日にカーネーションを贈る習慣（しゅうかん）は、アメリカの母の日の始まりと関係があります。

母の日のきっかけを作ったアンナ・ジャービスという方（かた）が、
亡（な）くなった母親が好きだった白いカーネーションを
教会（きょうかい）で配（くば）ったことが始まりだと言われています。

日本には、ほかにも家族に関係（かんけい）する祝日（しゅくじつ）や行事（ぎょうじ）があります。

たとえば、3月3日のひな祭りや、5月5日のこどもの日です。
それから、9月には敬老（けいろう）の日もあります。

Mother’s Day in Japan is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
People often give carnations or have a meal together to show appreciation to their mothers.
Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
Many people give gifts such as ties or alcohol to their fathers.

Both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day originally came from the United States and became popular in Japan as well.
Japan also has other family-related holidays and events, such as Hinamatsuri, Children’s Day, and Respect for the Aged Day.
