This class is for youth ages 7+ who would like to practice reading together. The class is designed to improve students reading, listening, speaking, vocabulary skills and confidence.

This class is for youth ages 7+ who would like to practice reading together. The class is designed to improve students reading, listening, speaking, vocabulary skills and confidence. 

There is so much to be gained when students spend twenty minutes a day reading aloud with a native English speaker. This is a common practice in American schools and has a strong impact on students vocabulary, reading comprehension, and overall English confidence.

Prior to the lesson, students will indicate age, English level, and topics of interest so the tutor may provide articles to read together. Prior to the lesson students will:
  • Read a short article prior to class  
  • Identify and highlight 3 - 5 new challenging vocabulary in the article/story
  • Prepare any questions they may have about the aritcle/story
During the lesson we will:
  • Read the short article/story aloud together focusing on pronunciation and natural speed of reading 
  • Student will then provide an oral summary of the article and explain the meaning of the article showing comprehension and context
  • The tutor will clarify and review new and challenging vocabulary
*Reading martieral will be based upon the students interests and English level. Teacher will forward student an article to be read and discussed after registering for class.

In some cases if a student prefers, there may be opportunities to read short stories together rather than individual articles.
