Descrizioni
Speaking practice, interests, and early project ideas
Is your child in Grade 8, 9, or 10?
This lesson package is for students who need more confidence speaking in English, but who are also starting to think about their future — school, activities, possible university paths, career interests, or even just what they might enjoy doing later.
Many students at this age are not ready to choose a major or career, and that is completely normal. The goal of this course is not to pressure them into making big decisions too early. Instead, we use English conversation as a way to help students talk about themselves, understand their interests better, and begin thinking about useful next steps.
Students will practise speaking about school, hobbies, strengths, challenges, activities, goals, and possible future interests. Along the way, we may also explore small project ideas based on what the student genuinely cares about.
Depending on the student, this could be a writing project, research topic, creative piece, community idea, presentation, business idea, technology project, or another simple activity they can slowly build over time.
By the end of the package, students should feel more comfortable expressing themselves in English and have a better sense of their interests, strengths, and possible next steps.
**Before the first lesson, I will send a short pre-lesson questionnaire for the student and/or parent to complete. This helps me prepare a more personalized first lesson and use our time together more effectively. Please submit the completed questionnaire at least 48 hours before the first lesson.**
Lesson Breakdown
Lesson 1: Interests, Strengths and English Goals
In the first lesson, I get to know the student and learn more about their school life, hobbies, favourite subjects, strengths, challenges, and English confidence.
We will talk about what feels easy or difficult when speaking English, and what the student would like to improve during the package.
This lesson helps me understand the student’s personality, communication level, and possible areas of interest.
Focus:
English confidence, student interests, strengths, and goals for the package.
Lesson 2: Academic Interests and Possible Pathways
In this lesson, students practise talking about the subjects and topics they enjoy.
We may discuss possible fields such as science, business, technology, healthcare, arts, education, social issues, entrepreneurship, trades, or other areas, depending on the student’s interests.
The goal is not to choose one final path. It is simply to help the student explain what they like, what they are curious about, and why certain subjects or fields may interest them.
Students will also learn useful English vocabulary for talking about school, future plans, careers, university, and personal goals.
Focus:
Speaking more clearly about academic interests and possible future directions.
Lesson 3: Activities and Project Ideas
In this lesson, we talk about the student’s current activities, hobbies, extracurriculars, and interests outside of school.
We will look at whether one of these interests could become a small project or activity. This does not need to be anything big or impressive. It should be realistic and connected to the student’s real interests.
For example, a student might explore a research question, create a short presentation, start a small writing project, develop a creative idea, volunteer in an area they care about, or plan a simple portfolio piece.
The student will practise explaining the idea in English: what it is, why they chose it, and what the first step could be.
Focus:
Finding realistic activity or project ideas and learning how to describe them in English.
Lesson 4: Personal Presentation and Next Steps
In the final lesson, the student will prepare a short self-introduction, interest presentation, or project explanation in English.
This gives the student a chance to practise organizing their thoughts and speaking with more confidence.
We will also review what the student has improved, what they may still need to work on, and what simple next steps would make sense over the next two to three months.
A brief parent update is included at the end of the package.
Focus:
Speaking practice, confidence, review, and practical next steps.
