This class is designed to improve beginning, intermediate or high level student's reading, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and discussion confidence.
There is so much to be gained when students spend time reading aloud with a native English speaker. This is a common practice in American schools and has a strong impact on a student's vocabulary, reading comprehension, pronounciation, and overall English speaking confidence.
There is so much to be gained when students spend time reading aloud with a native English speaker. This is a common practice in American schools and has a strong impact on a student's vocabulary, reading comprehension, pronounciation, and overall English speaking confidence.
Prior to the lesson, students will indicate age, English level, and topics of interest so the tutor may provide articles for reading. Prior to the lesson students will:
- Read a short article
- Identify and highlight some new, or challenging vocabulary in the article
- Prepare any questions they may have about the aritcle including unanswered questions assigned
During the lesson we will:
In some cases if a student prefers, there may be opportunities to read short stories together rather than individual articles.
- Read all or part of the short article aloud together focusing on pronunciation and natural speed of reading
- Student will then review questons completed prior to the lesson and discuss any concepts they may be unsure about
- The tutor will clarify and review new and challenging vocabulary, go over some of the questions assigned with the article, and discuss portions for the article with the student
In some cases if a student prefers, there may be opportunities to read short stories together rather than individual articles.
