This is Lesson 7 of the Brazilian Portuguese for Beginners course. In this 50-minute lesson, you will learn how to talk about time, organize your schedule and make simple plans with other people.
We will practise how to ask and tell the time in Brazilian Portuguese:
- Que horas são? — What time is it?
- É uma e vinte.
- São duas e meia.
- São quinze para as três.
- Ao meio-dia.
- À meia-noite.
You will also learn useful expressions related to punctuality and schedules, such as:
- Estou atrasado.
- Estou adiantado.
- Em ponto.
- A que horas?
- Das três e meia às quatro e meia.
The material includes clocks, short dialogues and a weekly agenda so that you can practise talking about appointments, classes, work, meetings and other activities.
We will practise the days of the week and useful questions such as:
- O que você vai fazer na segunda-feira?
- A que horas é a sua aula?
- Você pode ir ao banco às duas?
- Podemos jantar juntos amanhã?
- Você tem tempo no sábado?
You will learn how to use the irregular verb ir:
- eu vou
- você vai
- nós vamos
- vocês vão
We will also use ir + infinitive to talk about near-future plans:
- Eu vou estudar português.
- Nós vamos almoçar no restaurante.
- Ela vai viajar no domingo.
- Eles vão morar em Recife.
The third page of the material presents the verb ir, the immediate future and guided activities for creating sentences about upcoming actions.
We will also practise the verbs poder and ter to talk about possibility, permission and availability:
- Posso falar com você amanhã?
- Você pode trabalhar no domingo?
- Não posso. Não tenho tempo.
- Ela pode comprar este carro?
- Podemos ir ao cinema?
There will also be a brief review of demonstratives and possessives, helping you identify people and objects with phrases such as:
- Este é o meu amigo.
- Esta é a nossa professora.
- Estes são os meus óculos.
- Esta é a minha caneta.
During the lesson, we may:
- practise telling the time with clocks;
- complete a weekly agenda;
- talk about your real schedule;
- make and respond to invitations;
- discuss whether you are free or busy;
- create sentences about future plans;
- practise short dialogues about appointments and activities.
The activities will be adapted to your pace. I will help you understand the structures through guided examples and practical conversation.
By the end of the lesson, you will be able to tell the time, talk about your weekly schedule, ask about someone’s availability and make simple plans in Brazilian Portuguese.
