How well can you talk about a topic when you haven't had time to prepare?

In this lesson, I will give you a series of unexpected topics and ask you to speak about them. The topics can cover a wide range of subjects, so you won't know exactly what you'll be asked to discuss.


For example, I might give you the topic:


“Tattoos”


You might start by saying:


“Tattoos are not viewed positively in Japanese culture. For example, many places will not allow you to use their facilities if you have visible tattoos.”

But can you take the topic further?


You could add your own experiences, opinions or examples:

“My American friend has tattoos, and he gets a lot of funny looks when he travels on the train.”

The aim is to help you develop your ideas, organise your thoughts and keep speaking naturally, even when the topic is unfamiliar.

I will listen to your response and give you feedback on areas such as vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure and how clearly you develop your ideas.

This lesson is great for:

  • Developing flexibility when speaking English
  • Learning to speak logically and organise your ideas
  • Expanding and using your vocabulary
  • Improving sentence structure
  • Expressing and supporting your opinions
  • Developing confidence speaking about unfamiliar subjects
