Warmer: I will begin with a quick speaking exercise using passive voice questions. The student will see how the passive voice is used in conversation. It will also give me an idea of what the student already knows regarding this grammar point. A nice fun exercise which will allow the student the chance to speak. This part of the lesson will last 5 mins. 

Presentation: I will present the Passive voice, explaining how it is used and why it is used. I will also go through the different tenses showing the different structures of the passive voice. I will ask the student to create sentences for each tense as we talk about each one. I will also present examples sentences of each grammar tense. I will finally end this section of the lesson with a quick discussion on 'Impersonal You' and how it relates to the Passive voice. This will last 15 mins. 

Practice: I will give two exercises to the student here. The first is a gap filled exercise and will require the student to use the correct passive form of the verb. I will go through each question with the student in an attempt to see if the student is comfortable with the material. Once this is completed and the student is happy to move on, I will give the second exercise. Here, the student will be given an active or passive sentence and will be asked to write that sentence in a different way but keeping the same meaning. Two very challenging exercises but great practice regarding this grammar point. This will last 20 mins.

Production: In this stage, I will conduct another speaking exercise using Passive voice questions. Here, it will be much longer than the warmer. It will give the student the opportunity to use some of the structures they learned in the previous two stages. Again, this will last 15 mins.

Cooler: The final exercise will be similar to the practice stage of the lesson. I will give the student a number or questions where they will have to rewrite them in a different form, either active or passive, while trying to keep the same meaning. 


Learning Objective:

The student will be able to tell the difference between an active and passive sentence.

The student will be able to form different passive sentences using the different structures they will learn.

The student will be able to change active sentences into passive sentences and vice versa.
