Improve your English listening skills on your own schedule with a professionally recorded short story package!

PLEASE NOTE: This is a self-study, NO-CALL lesson. We will not be meeting live for a video call.


This package is designed to let you practice your listening skills wherever you go, on your own schedule. You will receive a premium audio recording of a classic or contemporary short story read by me, a complete text transcript with a vocabulary list, and a comprehension quiz to monitor your progress.


Booking Note: You may request one story per lesson package. You MUST specify your chosen story in your lesson request. Because this is a self-study audio package, requests without a selected story cannot be accepted.


How It Works:

  1. Listen & Read: Download the audio file and transcript to practice your listening stamina, rhythm, and vocabulary at your own pace.

  2. Take the Quiz: Within 24 hours of your request, I will send you a comprehension quiz through Cafetalk.

  3. Get Feedback: Send your answers back to me, and I will personally correct your quiz and provide your answer key.

  • The Devil is in the Details A suspenseful story perfect for intermediate learners. A mysterious man appears at a woman's door knowing intimate details about her life, leaving her with a life-altering proposition.

  • The Gift of the Magi (by O. Henry) A timeless, touching story published in 1906 about a young couple short on money but rich in love, who make secret sacrifices to buy each other the perfect Christmas gift.

  • The Lady or the Tiger? (by Frank Stockton) A semi-barbaric king devises a uniquely fair—but terrifying—system of criminal justice involving two doors, a beautiful lady, and a very hungry tiger.

  • Death by Scrabble (by Charlie Fish) A sharp, intensely engaging story where a seemingly innocent game of Scrabble begins to have serious, real-life consequences.

  • The Joy One Shadow Made (by Helena Phonse) A beautifully woven narrative following King Twilight and his two daughters in a stunning, ancient northern country named Celeste.
