Daily News Deep Dive: Real-World Vocabulary & Speaking Practice
Target Audience: Intermediate to Advanced (B2–C1)
Lesson Duration: 50 Minutes (adjustable)
Tired of the same conversations about hobbies and the weather?
To get truly fluent, you need to be able to talk about real, complex topics — confidently and naturally. In this lesson, we'll use authentic articles from major global news sources like the BBC or The Guardian to build your vocabulary, sharpen your reading comprehension, and really push your speaking forward.
What you'll get out of this lesson:
- Break the "Small Talk" Barrier – Build the confidence to hold your own in conversations about global issues, politics, economics, and culture.
- Expand Your Vocabulary – Pick up rich, advanced vocabulary the way it actually works in context, not from a dry word list.
- Fix Those Persistent Mistakes – Get targeted feedback on pronunciation and the grammar patterns that keep tripping you up.
Here's how it works:
- Before Class: I'll send you the key vocabulary before the lesson so you can look it over and come in feeling prepared.
- 5 mins – Warm-up & Prediction: We'll look at the headline together, chat about what you already know, and predict what the article might cover.
- 10 mins – Vocabulary & Pre-Reading: We'll go through the advanced vocabulary and pre-reading questions so you know what to look for as you read.
- 20 mins – Active Reading: You'll read a real, current article — something like a piece on a country navigating immigration policy, or the economic trade-offs governments face when balancing humanitarian concerns with local pressures. The kind of nuanced topic that actually comes up in real conversations.
- 10 mins – Deep Discussion: We'll work through the comprehension questions, and I'll throw in follow-up questions to get you speaking freely and sharing your own take.
- 5 mins – Feedback & Correction: I'll be listening throughout and wrap up with a clear, supportive breakdown of any patterns we should work on — grammar, pronunciation, whatever came up.
What to prepare: Just review the vocabulary I send you the day before, grab a coffee, and come ready to have an opinion!
Drop me a message with your current English goals and let's get started.
