TOEIC Preparation: Sharpening Your Test-Taking Skills (25 Minutes)
Target Audience: All Levels
Goal: Improve test-taking strategies and vocabulary relevant to the TOEIC exam.
Lesson Breakdown:

Introduction (5 minutes):
- Briefly introduce the TOEIC test format and its purpose.
- Highlight the importance of strong test-taking strategies.
- Activate prior knowledge by asking students about their test-taking experiences.

Focus on Strategies (15 minutes):
- Time Management: Discuss the importance of managing time effectively during the test. Introduce strategies like prioritizing questions and skipping difficult ones to come back to later.
- Skimming and Scanning: Teach techniques for quickly identifying key information in reading passages (scanning for keywords) and understanding the main idea (skimming).
- Elimination: Explain how to eliminate obviously incorrect answer choices to improve efficiency.

Practice Activity (5 minutes):
- Present a short (2-3 minute) TOEIC listening passage (audio or video) relevant to all levels.
- Provide a short reading passage with multiple-choice questions (mixed format - picture completion, sentence completion, etc.).
- Students answer the questions individually, applying the learned strategies.

Review and Discussion (5 minutes):
- Discuss the chosen passage and answer choices together.
- Encourage students to share their thought processes and chosen strategies.
- Debrief on the effectiveness of the practiced strategies.
Materials:
- Short TOEIC listening passage (audio or video)
- Short TOEIC reading passage with multiple-choice questions
- Whiteboard or projector for presenting materials
Differentiation:
- Provide answer choices at varying difficulty levels for the reading passage to cater to all student levels.
- Encourage higher-level students to explain their thought processes and chosen strategies to benefit lower-level students.
Extension Activities (Optional):
- Assign short, timed practice tests from TOEIC prep materials as homework.
- Encourage students to share effective test-taking strategies they use for other exams.
