Let's Speak English! Doctor & Patient Roleplay [with Japanese translation]
We’ll practice listening and speaking in English by role-playing as a doctor and patient. You’ll learn how to discuss symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments. After the trial lesson, a personalized plan will be provided based on your specialization.

This lesson is designed to boost your confidence, listening comprehension, and fluency when interacting in English in diverse medical environments.
Goal
The goal of each lesson is to help you communicate confidently in English within a medical context, with a focus on both listening and speaking skills. Through role-playing and the use of medical terminology, you will develop your ability to describe symptoms, explain diagnoses, and participate in patient-doctor interactions. The lessons aim to improve fluency, accuracy, and overall communication. Additionally, you will learn to master the correct intonation, tone, and rhythm for natural, effective conversations.
Lesson Structure

➁Material Distribution
・I will send you a PDF copy of the material for the session.
➂Vocabulary and Medical Terms
・Together, we will highlight words and medical terms, especially those that are new to you.
・Focus on their meanings and pronunciation.
➃Reading, Repetition, and Intonation
・I will read a section aloud, focusing on proper intonation, rhythm, and stress patterns.
・You will repeat after me, paying attention to the intonation and key word stress to sound natural.
⑤Role-Play (Patient - Doctor)
・You will play the patient while I take the role of the doctor.
・We will practice the script, focusing on accurate communication and improving fluency.
⑥Role-Play (Doctor - Patient)
・Now, you will take on the role of the doctor, and I will play the patient.
・Repeat the script, refining pronunciation and sentence structure.
➆Questions and Feedback
・Open the floor for any questions you may have regarding the material, terms, or anything unclear.
・Provide immediate feedback on pronunciation, intonation, and overall communication.
⑧Assignments (If needed)
Closing and Reflection
・Summarize the lesson and offer constructive feedback.
・Discuss the next steps and focus areas for improvement.
Lesson Plan
After the trial lesson, I will provide a personalized plan tailored to your preferred medical specialty. Initially, I will prepare three scripts. Depending on your English level, you may complete one script in a single lesson, or it may take more time. For example, a review of grammar may be necessary. The lessons will be conducted in 25-minute sessions. After finishing the first three scripts, we will check whether to proceed with additional scripts as the next step. If you wish to continue with the lessons, I will prepare the next set of scripts and proceed based on that. Please note that creating the scripts may take some time, and I kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation.
Language During the Lesson
Regarding the language of the lesson, I will ask at the beginning whether you prefer to conduct the lesson in English or Japanese, so either is fine. However, the scripts will be in English, of course. We will progress according to your level, but I will encourage using as much English as possible during our conversation. Let’s work hard together!
Lastly, I have one request. I’m not very good with keigo (respectful language), so there may be times when I accidentally use casual speech. I kindly ask for your understanding in such cases.
