Let's go on a scavenger hunt!
In this fun and interactive English class, your child will search around their home for different objects based on clues and instructions I give them in English.
I might ask:
“Can you find something blue?”
“Can you find something soft?”
“Can you find something round?”
“Can you find something you wear?”
Once they find something, the fun doesn't have to stop! We can talk about what they found. What is it? What color is it? Is it big or small? What do they use it for? Do they like it?
I'll adjust the scavenger hunt to your child's English level. For children who are still learning basic English vocabulary, I can use simpler clues involving colors, shapes, sizes, and familiar household objects. Children with stronger English skills can receive more detailed clues and questions that encourage them to think, describe, and communicate in English.
There are no worksheets or vocabulary lists to memorize. Instead, students can hear and use English while moving, searching, thinking, and having fun!
⊹ Learning through a Scavenger Hunt ⊹
A scavenger hunt gives children a reason to listen carefully and understand English in order to complete each challenge. During our lesson, students can practice:
Listening comprehension - Listening to clues and instructions in English and determining what they need to find.
Vocabulary - Hearing and using words related to colors, shapes, sizes, textures, household objects, clothing, and more.
Descriptive language - Identifying and describing different characteristics of the objects they find.
Speaking & communication - Talking about their objects, answering questions, and sharing information with me.
Following directions - Listening to English instructions and responding appropriately.
Answering questions - Practicing questions such as “What did you find?”, “What color is it?”, and “What do you use it for?”
Problem-solving - Thinking about each clue and deciding which object might fit the description.
Movement & active learning - Getting up, moving around, and interacting with their environment while practicing English.
Confidence using English - Having opportunities to listen and communicate in a playful environment where mistakes are completely okay!
Most importantly, the goal is to have fun while giving English a purpose. Your child isn't only hearing a word such as “blue”—they're using their understanding of that word to find something blue!
⊹ What to Know before Class ⊹
- Students will need enough safe space to move around and search for objects during class.
- Students should only search in areas of the home where their guardian allows them to go.
- Students should not bring anything dangerous, breakable, private, or inappropriate to the camera.
- Students are required to have cameras on unless otherwise given permission not to.
- All students must have a guardian present for the first 5 minutes of the lesson in case of technical difficulties.
- Younger students may benefit from having a guardian nearby in case they need help safely finding an object.
