Hi! My name is Lesia, and I’m so happy to meet you from my home in Edmonton, Canada.
If you are looking for a teacher who is patient, experienced, and truly understands the journey of learning a language, you’ve found the right place. I spent 12 wonderful years living and teaching in Japan, specifically in Kyoto, Mito, and Osaka, working with everyone from energetic 3-year-olds to students in their 70s. As a language learner myself, who studied Japanese and is currently studying Portuguese, I know exactly what it takes to build fluency from scratch and how much courage it takes to speak a new languag
As a mother to a half-Japanese son who attended kindergarten in three different countries, I also navigated the Japanese education system firsthand, including daycare, yochien, and juku. This personal journey deeply shapes my teaching philosophy. I don’t just teach English; I understand the social, emotional, and linguistic steps required to raise confident, global, and bilingual learners.

I believe that learning should feel like a warm conversation between friends - stress-free, encouraging, and tailored to your pace. While I have worked in the local public school system as a teacher of English Language Learners, currently, I work as an Educational Assistant and online tutor, bringing my professional training and personal insights into every lesson. I specialize in:
Early Childhood & Elementary Basics: I help young learners build a strong, joyful foundation in English. From learning primary colors, shapes, and numbers to developing early communication skills, I make early learning fun and interactive.
Phonics & Supportive Literacy: I love helping children move smoothly from "letter sounds" to "reading stories" using engaging games and tools (like "Word Sandwiches!"). My goal is to build genuine reading confidence for beginners and bilingual kids.
Structured Adult Lessons & Test Prep: For adults looking to advance their skills, I offer structured curriculum-based lessons focused on your specific professional or personal goals, as well as focused test preparation to help you confidently pass your exams.
Relaxed Adult Conversation: Whether we are chatting about daily life or working on a crochet project together, I provide a calm, patient space for you to find your true "English voice" without fear of making mistakes.
When I’m not teaching, I’m usually surrounded by yarn and plants. I love to crochet and spend time with my resident "Teaching Assistant," Professor Cat (Blake).

I understand how intimidating it can be to start something new, but I am here to support you every step of the way. Whether you are a parent looking for a foundational boost for your child or an adult looking for a friendly chat, I can’t wait to see you in class!
