Uncle Bob Instructor Profile 

Hello everyone, welcome to Cafetalk. I'm Uncle Bob. You have the option to either read this self-introduction or watch my self-introduction video by clicking on it. Feel free to do both. 

Self Introduction
Throughout my life, I've held various jobs, but teaching, mentoring, and coaching have consistently been the most rewarding. These roles allow me to showcase my skills, provide assistance to others, and fill me with the satisfaction of truly helping people achieve their goals.

Eikaiwa(英会話)I've taught a variety of classes in Canada, the USA, and Japan, but my favorite sessions involve the one-on-one interactions in Japan, known as Eikaiwa. Meeting a new student online feels like starting a new painting on a blank canvas. As we embark on this learning journey together, my goal is not only to share my experiences but also to engage in the art of teaching.


Marketing and Communications

With an extensive background spanning 22 years in both traditional and digital marketing and communications, I bring a wealth of knowledge to our learning environment. My aim is not just to impart lessons but to foster a collaborative learning atmosphere. I hope to share my insights with you, contributing to your growth while ensuring a satisfying and enriching experience for both of us.


Teaching Background


My teaching experience spans English as a second language, computer programming, Adobe Suite applications, website creation, marketing, math, sciences, drawing, oil painting, and other arts. I'm passionate about both learning and teaching, believing that continuous growth and self-discovery come from these processes.


Life experiences play a crucial role in learning. In 2017, I resigned from my position as Director of Communications and Marketing for a large international electronics distributor to return to teaching. My commitment to my students, spanning over 15 years, ranges from primary schools to postgraduate university students and adult professional business leaders. My promise to all students is consistent—to inspire, nurture, prepare, and provide the necessary support for their growth and academic excellence.

Life is a journey, not a destination.

I have taught English to over 2500 students in Japan. I truly enjoy meeting new students and being able to teach them online is a blessing. I have taught at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design as a graduate student mentoring the undergraduate students in a Design Lab environment that functioned as a real business. I have also lectured at the Chiba Institute of Techology, Kanagawa University, and the International Medical School in Yokohama (for nurses) and worked at a few patent Attorney businesses.


What Kind of Students Do You Have?

With all the new AI tools available, crafting a personalized English as a second language lesson has become more accessible. I tailor lessons by preparing personalized learning materials, including level-appropriate textbooks, and utilizing the aid of new advanced AI tools and online resources. This allows for a made-to-order approach, ensuring lessons cater specifically to each student. I provide various tools such as free conversation prompts, news articles, and maps to enhance the learning experience. Homework is assigned based on proficiency level, with a focus on making it both enjoyable and useful.

My hobbies.

Beyond teaching, my hobbies include camping, painting, swimming, cooking, BBQing, and enjoying nature. Teaching English is not just a job for me; it's a passion, a mission, and a career. I ensure that my online classes are creative with an encouraging environment, recognizing the importance of qualities like kindness, gentleness, empathy, and patience from Uncle Bob so you get value in your lesson.

Practice Makes Perfect & so do Made-to-order Lessons
With over 15 years of teaching experience in Japan, the USA, and Canada, I encourage students to try a simple intermediate-level lesson and see how it goes. It is my job to correct any errors in grammar or pronunciation and to rehearse difficult words as much as needed. For those seeking continuous improvement, I highly recommend weekly, bi-weekly or monthly lessons to track progress and ensure a personalized and effective learning experience to reach your goals.
