Hello! My name is Hassan, and I’m a licensed Canadian English teacher and a native English speaker with over 20 years of teaching experience, including many years of online teaching to Japanese students of all ages and from a wide variety of personal and professional backgrounds.

I have an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education, and I am a provincially licensed teacher in Canada. I also hold a TEFL/TESOL certificate. Over the years, I have taught general English, conversation, grammar, pronunciation, and natural English expression, as well as exam preparation for IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and EIKEN, including IELTS Speaking and Writing.

As a teacher, I try to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where students can speak freely without worrying about making mistakes. I enjoy getting to know my students and learning about their lives, interests, work, hobbies, and experiences. At the same time, I provide detailed corrections and suggestions when appropriate, so that students can gradually become more accurate, natural, and confident in English.

I have had a strong interest in Japan and Japanese culture since high school. I particularly appreciate traditional Japanese culture and thought, as well as the values of harmony, consideration for others, and respectful communication. I am also studying Japanese myself, so I understand some of the challenges of learning a foreign language. If you are a beginner, I can provide some support in Japanese when necessary.

I enjoy talking about many different subjects, including Japanese culture, everyday life, travel, education, work, hobbies, philosophy, mindfulness, and interesting ideas. You are also welcome to bring your own articles, books, videos, or other materials to our lessons. If you like, I can also provide links to online news articles at different levels of English difficulty, which we can use for reading, listening, vocabulary, and discussion practice.

Whether you are looking for focused English instruction, speaking practice, exam preparation, or simply a relaxed conversation with an experienced native English teacher, I would be very happy to meet you. I hope we can enjoy learning English together!

I currently offer lessons for adult learners, including university students, and do not teach children. For online lessons, my preferred conferencing platform is Google Meet, followed by Zoom and then Cafetalk's Lattep platform.
