Self-Introduction

Hi there! My name is Angus - and I am glad you are on my profile here on Cafetalk

I have always had an interest in language - not only the words and grammar, but also how language allows us to connect, share stories, and develop an understanding of each other.

This interest led me into teaching English - I like to help people find a way to express themselves and develop confidence while doing it.

I have a degree in International Trade and Economics, as well as several Cambridge Business Diplomas in Finance, Marketing, Communication, and Human Resources. This education and experience enables me to work with any type of learner, whether you are an absolute beginner or want to work on English for work or business.

One of the great things about teaching is meeting people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. I enjoy hearing about your experiences, and supporting you during your development, regardless of where you are now and where you want to get to.

I aim to have the lessons as relaxed, friendly, and supportive - as a space for you to try, make mistakes, learn, and develop at your own pace. Whether your goal is to improve your confidence, work on your grammar, or enjoy speaking English, I am here to support you.

Teaching Background

I did not really think I would become a teacher but looking back there has always been a pathway for me. I have always enjoyed assisting people with learning, whether that was explaining something to a classmate or assisting someone developing a presentation. But it was my experience at Gateway Primary School that ignited my love for teaching: tutoring young children as they learnt to read and improved their English.

It was an incredible feeling watching the children's confidence grow as they slowly sounded out each letter or when they had completed their first story. That experience also made me realize the importance of encouragement, patience and kindness in the learning process, and I bring that with me in every lesson.

I have taught all sorts of students since, from children barely starting their English journey, to adults perfecting their business communications. I enjoy seeing all the moments when my students realize they can speak English, all while trying to help them enjoy the process.

Teaching online has enabled me to engage with learners from all across the world. Each student I meet brings something new for me and I enjoy making each lesson personal, practical and meaningful. We may be working on grammar, pronunciation or simply having a conversation.

Teaching Style

I have a fairly relaxed and uncomplicated approach to teaching style, which places a strong emphasis on being supportive and accommodating to you. Sometimes language learning can feel somewhat daunting, so I hope to provide a space that allows you to feel comfortable, understood and that you can make mistakes and be encouraged in how you interact.

I teach students at all levels - beginners to advanced - both adults and children. Everyone has a unique learning journey, and it is important to figure out the most beneficial strategy to connect with you, and I will always take that time. Some students enjoy a more structured learning environment, while others are more informal and conversational - both great! I am happy to work with what makes you feel confident.

If you're new here, welcome, and a trial lesson would be a great way to start! It gives us an opportunity to meet and talk about your goals and how I might be able to help you. Of course, if you want to go straight to full lessons, I'm open to that too -- it's completely up to you!

I teach children and adults of all ages and work with beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. I'm comfortable working with all levels, so I'll meet you wherever you are.

I created numerous lesson plans that focus on topics such as grammar, speaking and real-world English -- but as I said above, I know that no two students are the same. So, if you have an area of interest that you want to work on, I would be glad to tailor the lesson.

Some students want structured learning, while others just want to chat to increase fluency and that's just fine too! What is most important is that you feel comfortable, supported and that you're learning in a way that works for you.
