Hello! My name is Joanna (ジョアンナ) and greetings from Perth in Western Australia! I am a native English speaker. I have a great passion for Japanese language and culture. In 2002, when I was 15 years old,  I went on exchange to Japan for one year. I studied at a high school in the Hyogo prefecture. This experience has broadened my understanding of Japanese culture and language. I always wanted to teach English in Japan and Cafetalk is a great way for me to do this!

Education:

At University, I studied a Master of Education, specializing in Japanese Language and Visual Arts. I also have Level N2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Exam, so I understand what it is like to learn a different language.

Currently, I am working in an after-school program at a high school. I teach English, Math, and various other subjects. Right now, I am studying a Bachelor in Creative Arts Therapy. I hope to work at schools and teach Art Therapy in the future!

My Hobbies:

I love doing crafts and making art. I like to design my own patterns and make things out of yarn. I make a lot of toys! I enjoy cooking Japanese food and learning Japanese language. I am trying to study for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, Level N1.

I believe that learning should be fun and the best way to learn a language is through conversation and learning from your mistakes. I can speak Japanese so if you need help with English I can explain it to you in Japanese!

I can teach a wide range of ages. I have taught at a local primary school for my teaching internship so I have experience teaching very young children. I have also taught primary school children on Cafetalk. 

I have had experience tutoring English at a high school for several years.
