Hi everybody! Or, as we say in Italy: 'Ciao a tutti!'
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I am a bilingual Italian-English teacher and cannot wait to share with you my enthusiasm and passion for communicating with people from different countries and cultures. I hold a TEFL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a degree in Interpreting and Translating.
How did it start? For the last 20 years I have been living between Italy, Scotland and Egypt teaching English and Italian. I teach both adults and children, in group classes and one-to-one sessions and Business English. While teaching I also worked for a Multinational Business company in Milan, for a University in Scotland developing research projects, and for a refugee charity in Egypt. This experience has given me a wide knowledge of the language requirements involved in these sectors in Italian, English and Arabic. I love travelling and have always been deeply fascinated by the Japanese culture and language -I only know a few words up to now but I'm working on it :-)
Moving to different countries as a child, I was naturally exposed to different languages and cultures from all over the world. I speak fluently Italian, English, French, Spanish and Arabic and, if you wish, while teaching I can give you explanations in these langauges too.
Teaching Methodology:
My objective is to help you achieve your learning goals and develop your language skills and to do so we will work together on your individual needs giving you the opportunity to speak, learn and also fully enjoy every aspect of your lesson. Having learned new languages myself, I fully understand the challenges involved in learning new idioms. So, no worries: I am a patient, supportive, creative and thorough teacher.
From my experience, I believe the communicative methodology is usually the most effective as it allows students to immediately start practising the four language skills (speaking, writing, listening and reading) while acquiring fluency and self-confidence.
*If your learning needs also require strong grammar skills, I am very happy go through grammar explaining topics and giving examples until every doubt is cleared*
Experience and Qualifications:
I have extensive experience as a language teacher, having taught children, high school and university students and adults in group classes and one-to-one lessons. I have taught students of all levels, from beginners to advanced including specialised vocabulary and Business English / Italian for companies. I teach KET, PET, FCE, CAE Cambridge Certifications and IELTS.
Qualifications:
- Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) - 120-hour TEFL Certification Course, Telf.org.uk, Scotland (2015)
- BA Interpreting and Translating, Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori Silvio Pellico – Milan, Italy (1999)
- Active Methodologies for Teachers - Edinburgh School of English, Scotland (2007)
- Level C1 Modern Standard Arabic Certificate and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic - International House - Cairo, Egypt (2018)
Arabic and Egypt
I have lived and worked in Egypt since 2017 and I must say I love the country, the language and the whole culture. I have gained a C1 certificate in Arabic and feel honoured and delighted to have the possibility to teach Arabic for beginners and to help people new to the local culture gain the awareness to move around Egypt confidently as foreigners.
