Hi everyone! My name is Johan.
I am from and located in The Netherlands, Europe.
I received my TEFL degree in 2007 in Manchester in the UK. I then moved to Asia, where I lived for 6 years.
For the past 11 years I have been teaching English, both in classrooms and online, mostly to Asian students as well as a few Europeans.
Here I'll be answering a few of the questions you might have:
1. Why did you become an English teacher?
I love languages and I loved traveling around Asia. These two things combined, made me realise the perfect job for me was English teacher!
2. What do you like most about being an English teacher?
What I love most is seeing a student gain confidence, being able to communicate in ways he/she wasn't able to before the course! There's nothing more satisfying!
3. What's you teaching style?
I tend to focus on communicative, conversational skills. Grammar accuracy is a part of that for sure, but the emphasis should be on speaking fluently, communicating in a natural way. I try to deliver my lessons in a way that is engaging and fun, for both the student and the teacher.
In my free time, my biggest passion is to travel. I am fortunate enough to have been to 38 countries so far. I also love nature, going on cycle holidays, and cooking/food.
