I am back！
Hello! I'm Betty, a dedicated educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, with a passion for teaching. Originally from Nagoya, Japan, I have proudly called Los Angeles home for over 20 years.
My professional journey began as an interpreter at Tokyo Disney Sea, where I worked closely with Walt Disney Imagineering. I also gained valuable experience working for prominent organizations such as Uniqlo, Meyer Sound Systems, and collaborating with jazz music artists. (I am a hard-core Jazz aficionado and sing in a big band!)
During my time in Los Angeles, I have been actively engaged in teaching English and Japanese to adults through private tutoring, all while working in the luxury watch retail industry. This dual experience has allowed me to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, honing my communication and negotiation skills in English. Through my meticulous nature and innate Japanese traits of being detail-oriented, persistent, and patient, I achieved remarkable success in this role, earning a six-figure income as a top producer.
Working with Disney has instilled in me the belief that effective business communication in English requires a deep understanding of others' ethnic, cultural, and subcultural backgrounds. This realization, coupled with my reevaluation of skills and personal happiness during the pandemic, motivated me to embark on a new path of online teaching.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from California State University, where I made the Dean's Honor List. Moreover, I am currently certified with a California teaching credential and expected to graduate Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2023. My goal is to manage my language school and Jazz cafe in Japan near future!
Throughout my teaching career, I have noticed that Japanese adult students often excel in English grammar and vocabulary after studying for six years in junior high and high school. However, many struggle with conversation skills. My teaching approach is centered on identifying each student's specific goals in studying English and providing tailored recommendations from a selection of textbooks. This personalized approach enables students to achieve their objectives swiftly and efficiently.
