Hi!
My name is Ethan Lane, and I am a native English-speaker from California in the United States of America. I currently live in Japan.
EDUCATION & HOBBIES
I majored in Film Production at UC Santa Cruz, and after graduation, I worked for a time in independent film. I enjoy acting and writing, but don't have much time for them as I am preparing for or teaching classes.
I also like to read, but I tend to read many books at the same time and switch between them, so it can take me a while to finish any one book. Currently I am reading three: one about politics, another on dogs, and the last is about the history of Japan.
I like to travel, though I have so far only been to a few countries in Europe and Asia. I love trying new food, experiencing new culture, and meeting new people!
QUALIFICATIONS
I am a TEFL-certified ESL teacher, and have been teaching English for 14 years in both Korea and Japan. I have worked with students from ages 2 to 65, of varying abilities and nationalities. I have experience teaching in a wide variety of areas, from phonics and basic conversation to advanced grammar and TOEIC/TOEFL test and interview preparation (all the way up to the highest levels).
I find the differences between languages as fascinating as it can be confusing, and so I fully understand the need for patience with my students.
I try to tailor every lesson to each student, so that you learn what you want, and also gain vocabulary and extra knowledge that is useful to you.
Whether you want to learn the mechanics of English, such as grammar and syntax, want to improve your reading, or practice your speaking abilities through conversation, or prepare for an upcoming business trip, vacation, or English presentation, I can help you achieve your goals!
