Konnichiwa! I am Kirk, or you can call me Kāku カーク, as my friends call me in Japan.
I help Japanese people communicate with clarity, confidence, and impact in English. For the past three years, I’ve coached Japanese executives and international professionals in some of Japan's leading technology, finance and pharmaceutical companies to:
I have a very deep connection to Japanese culture and Japanese people. This began in my youth when I first studied Okinawan Karate and was introduced to the beauty of Japanese culture and its philosophy. Many years later, I traveled to Kyoto, where upon my arrival Kyoto felt more familiar to me than my own home. Three years later I moved to Kyoto, where I lived and studied shodo, sumi-e painting, chado, tai chi and zazen. Some of my students have told me I am more Japanese than anyone they know. I love talking about Japanese culture and where to find the best ramen in Japan.
I have a very diverse background of experience. I have lived many lives in this lifetime. I was a professionally trained actor and spent 10 years on the stage, so let’s work on your pronunciation and proper accent. I spent 25 years in sales, training and also published my own magazine for five years so I understand the language of business, persuasion and empowering global professionals to express themselves effectively in meetings, presentations and negotiations.
I am a certified yoga and meditations instructor and have spent the past five years traveling and living in many different cultures including Japan, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and Peru. I enjoy drawing and painting and writing about my travels and experiences, so lets talk about your hobbies and positive ways to reduce stress and places you would like to travel.
My approach is very friendly, calm, personalized, and rooted in a relationship of trust. I know from experience that communication is more than words—it’s about presence, connection, and clarity of thought.
A recent testimonial from one of my students in Japan....
"I had the privilege of being Kirk’s student while studying English in recent three years, and I was deeply impressed by his teaching style and dedication.
If you’re seeking to advance your career and communicate with confidence in English or simply looking to become comfortable conversing in English, let’s connect….and most importantly, let’s have some fun together.
