我是先天性听障人士。（听障人士→几乎或完全无法听见声音的人）。我的母语是日本手语，但在路上或工作场合时常需要以声音对话，必要时会请手语翻译者协助。我至今已从事日本厚生劳动省的手语服务员培训课程讲师，以及全国手语检定测验面试官 4 年。我最近发觉戏剧中更常出现手语，以及因为去年的“Silent”电视节目与佳子公主的手语演讲，想学习手语的人正在增加中。草薙主演的手语戏剧也在今年 10 月上映了。以前大家通常是“为了帮助听障者而学习手语”，现在反而有许多人“因为兴趣而学习手语”。询问他们学习原因时，他们回答“学习手语后，我了解到与人面对面交谈的重要性”“学习到通过脸部表情表达的重要性”。不论听力如何，如果能让大家通过学习手语认知到“沟通的重要性”，我一定会感到喜不自胜。身为一位讲师，我时常听到这样的烦恼：“想学习手语，但身边没有人能应用”。手语母语者非常稀少。先天性听障者大约只占全日本人口 0
