Hello! My name is Alexandra, but you may call me "Alex". I am living in Tokyo, Japan. I am from California in the United States. I also lived in Seattle, Washington for a long time. I moved to Japan in October of 2019.
Learning another language opens opportunities for discovering new perspectives, so I really enjoy studying kanji and the Japanese language. I also enjoy providing learning opportunities for students who want to learn the English language.
In addition to teaching, I am a Naturalist. I observe and study the natural world, and write and draw about it. I love animals. I like to swim and learn about fish. When the conditions are not good for that, I study birds. I also really love cats.
In the United States I worked in the Veterinary field as an animal nurse. I have enjoyed working with many types of animals, even tigers!
BACKGROUND IN ENGLISH
I have helped with many various written papers and projects. I helped a student studying at Stanford University with editing his PhD thesis and a businessman doing a presentation for Amazon. I assisted veterinarians by writing medical notes and documents. I've also done various copywriting for websites, blogs, and other projects or papers.
I have taught English to a wide range of age groups, with having worked as an English teacher at a major English conversation school and an elementary school.
EDUCATION
During my bachelor's degree program, I took many additional courses in writing and philosophy. I also took an editing and grammar course at the University of Washington, after graduating from Cornish College of the Arts.
At Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, I studied Japanese Woodblock Printmaking (Mokuhanga). A few years later, I took a course in Natural Science Illustration at the University of Washington (also in Seattle).
Thank you for reading. I look forward to meeting you!
