Lawrence P Профиль преподавателя

This tutor is currently on leave.
Hello. My name is Lawrence and I'm a certified English language teacher from the UK with 6 years English language teaching experience. From 2010 to 2015 I spent 5 years teaching English at an Eikaiwa in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. I have experience of teaching English to a wide range of students from 3 years old to over 80 years old, covering general conversation English, Business English and exam practice.

My lessons are very easy-going and you don't need to feel any pressure while studying with me. I'll tailor your lessons around your interests and learning needs to make sure you get the most out of your study time.

If you would like to find out a little more about me before signing up for a lesson, please see the further information below. However the best way for you to find out if I am the right teacher for you is by signing up to one of my 20 minute trial lessons.

I hope to hear from you soon and I look forward to helping you achieve your English language goals!

Lawrence

English Teaching Qualifications and Experience
In 2009 I completed a CertTESOL course to become a qualified English language teacher. I also completed extra teacher training specialising in teaching Business English.

After completing my training I spent one year teaching at an English language school in the UK. I taught students from all over the world who visited the UK to study. Students were from 18 years old up to 65 years old. The students included business professionals, university students and graduates, as well as people looking to improve their English for a career change.

I then moved to Japan in 2010 and an amazing 5 years teaching English at an Eikawa in Honjo, Saitama. There I taught English to students of all ages (from 3 years old up to about 80 years old). The first half of my days were spent teaching younger children and retired adults, and in the evenings I would teach junior high school, high school and university students, as well as businessmen and women.

While teaching in Japan I was not only able to help my students improve their English ability, but we also had great fun learning about each other and our countries.

My Lessons
My lessons are very easy-going and there is no need for you to feel nervous or any pressure when studying with me. I understand that learning a language can be difficult and that everybody learns in a different way and at a different speed. I'll keep lessons relevant, interesting and fun by basing them around your personal study needs and interests.

Although my lessons are usually taught 100% in English, for beginners I know that having a teacher use a few Japanese words can help speed up understanding and take away any uncertainty. Therefore if you prefer, I can use a small amount of Japanese during lessons.

As I am from the UK I teach British English. I speak RP English (received pronunciation).

About me
I grew up just outside the village of Broadway on the edge of the Cotswolds in England, but have lived in they city of Bristol since 2015.

In my free time I enjoy listening to music, playing bass guitar, watching football, walking, doing DIY and occassionaly playing video games. I am also planning to start studying Japanese again as my level has dropped since leaving Japan.

My time in Japan
During my free time in Japan I studied Japanese and visited as much of Japan as possible. I never quite made it to Okinawa (a big typhoon meant I had to cancel my trip!), but I have see a lot of Honshu and Kyushu, as well as parts of Hokkaido and Shikoku. I still try to visit Japan at least once a year and have a long list of new places I want to see!

Since Leaving Japan
Since I left Japan and returned to the UK in 2015 I have worked in the tourist industry for a company specialising in holidays to Japan for British customers. Although I originally helped to plan and build customer holidays, I now assist other companies who want start selling holidays to Japan. In this role I am able to help keep my connection with Japan strong and can also share my passion for the country with many more people. As I have spent over five years working in the tourist industry, I am able to also offer specialist hospitality and tourism English lessons.
