~Self Intro~

 

Hi everyone! My name’s Sonya and I am an American from San Diego, California. Currently I am living in the beautiful city of London, UK, where I have resided for over 13 years. 

 

I currently hold a Bachelor’s in Music and Film Studies from Newcastle University, from which I graduated with First Class Honours, and I have been doing one-on-one part-time tutoring and classroom assistant teaching in English and Spanish for 2 years now.

 

I am so excited to talk with you and help develop your English in a way that feels natural and comfortable for you. 

 

Additionally, I can help you develop a standard American accent when speaking, or an English accent (Received Pronunciation) if you prefer. 

 

 

 

~My Teaching Style~

 

I believe the fastest way to learn any language is through listening and speaking. Let’s talk about topics YOU want to talk about in a relaxed and fun environment. 

 

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Making mistakes is fundamental to learning, and I will be here to note and correct your errors! So don’t sweat it ;) 

 

When we are speaking, I will teach you more common ways to phrase things in English, as well as colloquialisms, slang, idioms and American/British terms so we can get your English sounding as natural, as modern and as impressive as we can. 

 

I can also offer:

  • Proofreading for Business Emails and Letters, Job Applications and Personal Statements
  • Level Placement
  • Job/College Interview Practice
  • Conversation classes about US Politics and Current Affairs
  • Songwriting and lyric translation class from Japanese to English/Spanish

During the lesson, I will be taking notes of where we can improve your spoken English and I will go through them with you at the end. 

 

 

 

~My Hobbies and Interests~

 

When I am not teaching, I enjoy songwriting, singing, acting (I work as a part-time actor), reading, watching movies and listening to music! My favorite songs are Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi (which I am making a cover of) and Russian by Caravan Palace. My favorite movie is Castle in the Sky by Studio Ghibli. 


This is me acting as an extra in the movie Enola Holmes! ^
