[INTRODUCTION]
Hi, it’s nice to meet you. My name is Holly and I’m a native English speaker. I was born in California, although I’ve also lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Japan, Iceland, Ireland, and New Jersey. I've loved languages my entire life - in addition to English, I speak Spanish and French, as well as a little bit of German, Icelandic, and Japanese. I've studied abroad in Japan (Ryukoku University in Kyoto) and I've lived/worked in Germany, Iceland, and Ireland as an au pair.
[QUALIFICATIONS]
I received both my BA in Linguistics and my MA in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language from the University of Oklahoma. During the day I teach Newcomer ESL at a nearby middle school. My students range in age from 10 to 14 and have been in the US for less than 2 years on average, with some only having lived here for a few months. Before I moved to Boston, I was a volunteer teacher with The Spero Project in Oklahoma City, where I taught or assisted in teaching emergent literacy and A1-A2 level grammar to students ages 30-85.
[MY LESSONS]
Grammar practice and conversation practice are my favorite kind of lessons to teach! I can also help you with pronunciation, fluency, prosody, eloquence, and stress/timing, as well as higher-level editing/proof-reading/writing. If you only want to practice conversation, that's fine too! I'm excited to work with you to learn more about your needs and how I can help you learn this complicated language.
I have a lot of experience teaching beginner students, so don't feel shy if you're just starting out! However, if you're more advanced and seeking finer critiques, I'm able to help you with that as well.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in a multi-billion-dollar nationwide corporate office for four years. If you need help with professional/business English, I am able to help you with that as well.
[EXTRA]
If you like cats, I am also happy to try and get my cats on camera so we can talk about them! :)
Let's get learning! :)
