Hello, my name is Mark.

I'm a retired British English native speaker living in South East England. I graduated with a degree in International Politics a lifetime ago, and my career in financial services took me from London to work in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok as well as stints in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. In the eighties when I worked for a Japanese company, I visited Japan several times a year and fell in love with the country.  I love travel, but now I'm firmly settled back in the UK, and I decided to start teaching English when I was coming up to retirement. I qualified in early 2024 with a TEFL Level 5 Diploma, and a Certificate for Teaching Business English. I focus on improving fluency for adult learners who may need English for work or study or simply for pleasure. I tend to focus my classes around topical articles which I send in advance so if there is time you can read before the class. If not , that's no problem. We can read together, and I correct pronunciation and explain any new vocabulary. We can have a conversation about the content and decide what we think of it. Some students like to write a summary of the article, which I can then correct. Others simply like to talk! I can tailor my approach to suit your particular needs. If you require help with interviews or with preparing for an important presentation, I can help. I have written plenty of presentations in my time, and listened to lots as well. Similarly, I have interviewed candidates and been interviewed on multiple occasions, so hopefully I can help you through role play. Above all I try to ensure that the classes are enjoyable, and to build confidence. I believe once you feel more confident you can unlock so many of the mysteries of the English language!
