Throughout 2024 I desperately searched for work in my field. I wanted to begin working in my field to use the knowledge that I had gained from my previous University classes as well as experience that I had gained while working as a English teacher in South Korea.
I encountered many hurdles while trying to find the employment that I was looking for. I continued to search for jobs during the first part of 2025. I attempted to take more classes to make me a stronger applicant for the jobs I wanted, but that didn't work out.
I tried to take on internships to try to gain more experience and credentials that would help me obtain a job.
That didn't work out either.But when it was still cold and gloomy outside, I felt moved to write a letter to an employer that I had only a little knowledge of.
I was not expecting very much. I simply requested to be allowed to observe my employer (a doctor of SLP) while she treated clients using both English and Korean.
To my surprise, she invited me for an interview. One interview led to another, and now I am in a new city working a new job that I didn't expect to be working. This is not a moment that I feel proud, this is a moment that I feel very blessed. All of my other efforts did not amount to much, but I was provided with this opportunity. It was not my own hard work or efforts that place me here, so instead of feeling proud, I feel very grateful.
