Black Friday is an informal name for the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US, which is the fourth Thursday of November. It has been regarded as the beginning of the country's Christmas
shopping season since 1952.
The term Black Friday did not become widely recognised or used until the 1980s or later in some regions.
Most major retailers open early and offer promotional sales. For more expensive items such as electronic products, people line up overnight to get in the stores when they open in the morning.
This year, Black Friday is November 23.
Happy shopping!
