Great news! Swearing is good for your mental health.

2020年12月10日

I heard that on the morning talk show this morning.  I was like, "yay!". Okay, that's sounds a bit over enthusiastic and childlike.

I quickly look it up on the internet, and found an article on a psychology website.

According to this article, these are the benefits.

1. Pain relief - swearing causes a surge of adrenaline and a pain relieving effect on our immune system.

2. Non-violent outlet - it allows us to get back at 'bad people' or situations without violence.

3. It is a coping mechanism which boosts our self-esteem when it is deflated.

4. It gives us a greater sense of control over a negative situation.

5. Psychological and physical health - swearing increases circulation, endorphin and serotonin levels, and an overall sense of
calm and well-being.

Even though swearing has so many benefits, one shouldn't do it excessively.  Swearing once in a while, up to few times a day to yourself, even to your close friends is acceptable.

Do it at the right time and to the right people helps momentarily release your frustration.
