When I lived in America, I often drank apple cider, fruity cocktails, or other sweet drinks. Japan doesn't really have the same kind of sweet drinks, so I started to test out different fruit wines. I tried yuzushu (yuzu wine), anzushu (apricot wine), and lots of others. By far though, my favorite one has been umeshu.
It's not just me who likes it though. Umeshu has become so popular in the western world that the word umeshu has started to come into English! Not everybody knows this word yet, and it still isn't a common drink to find in America and other places. Slowly though, it is coming up as a great Asian alternative to cider.
