Garden Journal #5

Funny that I should write about my daily routine last week. It has been almost non-stop rain for most of the week, turning my garden into a veritable swimming pool. Add to that some irregular sleep patterns (thank you caffeine), and the result is I haven't ventured into the garden all week except for this morning.

先週僕のルーチンについて話があったのが、今週本当に大雨があったから庭はスイミングプールになった。カフェインのせいで睡眠不足もあったので、今朝以外に全然庭のことをやってなかった！

Due to the heavy rain, there was a tragic disaster in Atami, where many houses were swept away in a landslide. Watching some of the drone footage, the area looked like a war zone. Disaster can strike at any time, especially in Japan where there are many natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, volcanoes etc.

雨のせいで世界のニューズになった熱海の崩落惨事がありました。ドローンの撮ったビデオを見ると、戦域の同じようにと思った。災害は瞬く間に発生できるですね。特に日本は災害のことが多いと思う。地震と台風と火山もあります。

For those of us lucky enough to be unharmed by these disasters, it gives us a chance to be grateful for the life we have and to value each day, even though it is easy to be distracted by the hustle and bustle of daily life.

日々皆の生活は忙しくなって、日常生活のことを夢中することが易くしまえる。でも災害が起こるとき、傷を受けてない人の場合（確かに傷が受けた人もかもしれない）、感謝と日常の価値を再確認することができると思う。

Looking at my garden through the window, I was reminded how robust nature is. After the heavy rain had stopped for even a few hours, the pools in my garden had been absorbed by the mud, and things returned to their peaceful ways.

窓から庭を眺めると、自然の強さと耐久性を悟った。大雨が止まった後、残った水たまりが土壌に吸い込んでしまった。それと、平和が庭に戻った。
