Describing Pictures – Scene vs Scenery

Suja

Vocabulary can sometimes be tricky.

Today let’s look at the difference between the words 'scene' and 'scenery'.

This is a common mistake and it is important to understand the difference.

A scene refers to the location of an event or where something is taking place.

Let’s look at the picture above and describe the scene.

The picture above depicts a busy scene in a classroom.

A scenery ,on the other hand, refers to the view such as a natural landscape. It can refer to something picturesque.

For example we can say : The scenery at the top of the mountain was beautiful!
