Longest day of the year

Today, June 21 2024, is the summer solstice. It is the day with the longest daylight hours of the year. The summer solstice day falls on June 21st or 22th, depending on the year. The daytime is about 14 hours and 30 minutes, and the nighttime is about 9 hours and 30 minutes.

However,　because this time of year is usually rainy season in Japan, the actual sunlight hours are often shorter than in winter. In fact, It's rainy and cloudy here in my town today.

In the southern hemisphere, the relationship between the length of day and night is reversed, so daylight hours is the shortest of the year today.

Although people don't do anything special for today in Japan except in some areas, I heard that there are countries where people do special things such as lighting a bonfire as a traditional event. Do you do anything special today?

今日、2024年6月21日は夏至です。一年で最も昼間の時間が長い日です。夏至の日は、年によって6月21日または22日です。この日、昼の時間は約14時間30分、夜の時間は約9時間30分になります。

しかし、通常この時期は日本では梅雨なので、実際の日照時間は冬よりも短いことが多くなります。私の街でも、今日は曇り時々雨になっています。

南半球では昼と夜の時間の関係が反対になるので、この日は昼の時間が最も短くなるそうです。

日本では、一部の地域を除いて、夏至に特別のことをするわけではありませんが、焚火を焚くなどの伝統行事をおこなう国もあると聞きました。あなたは今日、何か特別のことをしますか？
