The 10-Minute Challenge to Try This Obon/Summer Holiday

Teacher Marinka

Obon is a special time in Japan — a chance to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with family traditions. But it’s also a wonderful opportunity to invest in yourself, even if you only have a few minutes a day!

That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for The 10-Minute Challenge this summer holiday.

?? What is the 10-Minute Challenge?

The idea is simple: choose one small, focused activity and commit to doing it for 10 minutes each day during Obon week.
Why 10 minutes?

  • It’s short enough to fit into even the busiest day.

  • It lowers the “pressure” so you can start easily.

  • It creates a sense of achievement every day.

?? Suggested Challenges for Language Learners

If you’re learning English (or any other language), here are some fun ideas you can try:

  1. Read a short article aloud — Focus on pronunciation and rhythm.

  2. Listen to an English podcast or song — Try to write down 3 new words you hear.

  3. Write a mini diary entry — Just 3 sentences about your day.

  4. Shadow a TV show line — Repeat after your favourite character and copy their intonation.

  5. Practice a conversation opener — Ask yourself: “If I met someone new today, what would I say in English?”

?? My Personal Challenge This Summer

I’ll be spending 10 minutes each day learning a new idiom and thinking of three ways to use it in conversation. Even as a tutor, I love challenging myself — because learning never stops!

✨ How You Can Join In

  1. Pick your challenge.

  2. Do it for 10 minutes every day between August 11th and 17th.

  3. (Optional) Share your progress with me in our next lesson!

Remember, it’s not about perfection — it’s about consistency. By the end of the holiday, you’ll be amazed at how much you’ve improved in just 10 minutes a day.

So, are you in? Let’s make this Obon holiday a small but powerful step in our learning journey!
