I Said My Classes are Chill . . . But Here's the Truth

Natz

The morning of August 16, I gave a lesson to one of my students. I want to share what happened because it is something that reflects how I teach and why I teach that way.

In my profile video, I say that I always make my students feel comfortable in each lesson. And I truly mean that. I really care about creating a space where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow from them.

However, while I prioritize comfort, I sensed today that my student was too comfortable.  "Not good . . . ", I told myself.  So, I introduced a little time pressure during problem-solving.  Let me make myself clear.  This is not to stress them, but to prepare them.

Exams aren't always comfortable.  That's reality.  They come with time limits. And I believe part of my job is to train students how to stay calm and focused under time pressure.

To summarize what I want to share to you today -- comfort and challenge can coexist. I may nudge you from time to time. I believe that's good for us.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment if you wish.  Let's keep learning together.
