One of my favorite parts of teaching on Cafetalk is hearing curious and thoughtful questions from my students. Recently, a student asked me:
“Teacher, what should I say if I get lost in a foreign country and need help?”
I loved this question because it’s practical, real, and relatable for so many English learners — especially those who enjoy traveling! Instead of memorizing long, complicated sentences, I taught my student simple and natural phrases like:
“Excuse me, could you help me?”
“Where is the nearest station?”
“How do I get to the airport?”
“I think I’m lost. Can you show me on the map?”
The student practiced listening, speaking, and pronunciation until these phrases felt natural. After just one lesson, they said:
“Now I feel confident about asking for help when I travel!”
