Taking A Moment to Reflect on 2025

Aspen Kumagai

The year 2025 is nearly over. For me, it's been a rollercoaster of happy, exciting moments with just as many stressful ones.

Did you know I'm a writer? This year I began my author journey and published two novels under the pseudonym a.t.kumagai. It was always my dream to become a published author, and this year I reached my dream. Growing up, it seemed like an impossible goal that I would never be able to reach. Writing, like many skills, takes a lot of practice and studying. It can sometimes be difficult to see progress, and as learners, we don't realize how much we have improved until we look at our older work.

Just like learning a foreign language, it isn't easy to see how much we have learned. We can't physically keep track of the new words we used in sentences or the grammar we picked up along our learning journey.

I recommend keeping a journal or diary. Write about your favorite topics. You can pretend you're hosting a TV show about the topic you love. If you love sports, pretend you're the anchor of a sports recap show. If you love cooking, pretend you're teaching viewers on YouTube how to cook your favorite dishes.

Writing, just like speaking, is an output skill. Give it a try!

What are your goals for next year? Do you have any dreams you want to reach that feel impossible? I'd love to hear about it.

Take care and have a wonderful 2026!
